From June 11 to 13, 2025, the 17th Cross‑Strait Forum · Guandi Cultural Tourism Festival was held on Dongshan Island, Fujian. As a treasure of Southern Fist, Wumei Boxing takes martial arts as a medium, interprets the spirit of loyalty and righteousness at the sacred site of Guandi culture, and builds a bridge for cross‑strait cultural exchanges. Amid blue seas and green mountains, martial artists, with the momentum of "Splitting Huashan Mountain with One Blow", jointly compose a new chapter of the era featuring "martial‑art‑driven integration and bonds linking the two sides of the Taiwan Strait".

On June 13, 2025, events for the Cultural and Natural Heritage Day were held at Yongding Tulou in Longyan. The well‑balanced performance of Wumei Boxing inheritors stood out as a highlight. Their stances — fierce as a tiger pouncing down the mountain and nimble as a snake flicking its tongue — fully embodied the essence of Hakka martial arts and won thunderous applause from the audience.

This event not only showcased the charm of intangible cultural heritage, but also demonstrated Longyan’s resolve to carry forward the Hakka martial spirit. At the "Joyous Tulou" Theatre, the brilliant rendition of Wumei Boxing vividly illustrated the fruitful achievements in the preservation and revitalization of intangible cultural heritage.

Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritance · Enduring Charm of Martial Arts

7

On Cultural and Natural Heritage Day, June 14, 2025, the Shanghang County Wumei Boxing Association demonstrated this intangible‑cultural‑heritage martial art dating back to the Ming and Qing dynasties. Its distinctive style — "as firm as iron, as supple as water" — embodies ancient people’s philosophical reflections on heaven, earth and nature, as well as inheritors’ original aspiration of upholding traditions while pursuing innovation.

As a jewel of Shanghang County’s intangible cultural heritage, Wumei Boxing has undergone decades of inheritance and development and is radiating new vitality through living‑heritage practices. Its force‑and‑grace‑infused boxing charm unfolds a vivid cultural panorama for audiences, demonstrating the vigorous vitality of traditional martial arts in modern‑day society.

Extraordinary Significance

Centered on Wumei Boxing as a cultural bond, the three events were splendidly staged respectively during the Cultural and Natural Heritage Day, Hakka Intangible Cultural Heritage activities and the Cross‑Strait Guandi Cultural Tourism Festival. Through balanced boxing performances combining hardness and softness, they not only illustrated the inheritance philosophy of "upholding traditions while pursuing innovation" for this intangible cultural heritage, but also advanced the in‑depth integration of regional and cross‑strait cultures. From Longyan Tulou to the coastal isle of Dongshan, Wumei Boxing, with its unique martial appeal, vividly interprets the cultural value and vibrant vitality of traditional martial arts in contemporary society.
